Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment involves the removal of the pulpal tissues from your damaged tooth. The pulp is the part in the center of a tooth made up of blood vessels and nerves within and extends from the crown (part of tooth visible in the mouth) to the roots. This pulp can be infected or inflamed due to decay, cracked or fractured tooth. Signs of pulp damage that you might experience may include swelling, occasional sensitivity to hot and cold foods, discolouration of teeth, pain and tenderness of overlying gums. It is best to get treatment else it may cause pain, swelling and loss of supporting bone. Therefore with a proper root canal treatment, it saves teeth that would otherwise have to be extracted.
The aim of a root canal treatment is to improve the health of your damaged tooth. Under local anesthetic, the pulp is removed from the root canal, and the canal is cleaned and disinfected. Then the canals are sealed with an inert material that occupies the space vacated by the removal of the pulp. After the internal of the tooth have been treated, the external will be restored with a crown to protect the tooth underlying structures and bring the tooth back into function.
Many patients in Singapore both young and old have asked, “Is it Painful?”. Not to worry, as the root canal treatment is not painful and it is completely safe. The procedures for the root canal reatment are comfortable and painless due to the teeth being anaesthetised. However the teeth may be sensitive or tender for a few days after treatment because of the inflammation of the surrounding tissues. Take painkillers to relieve any discomfort which is available at any pharmacies. Extracting a root canal tooth and having it replaced with a dental implant or denture would be an alternative option. However this treatment is much more expensive and also required more time and procedures.
Get a root canal treatment as soon as possible to prevent any further damages and pain. Get it treated when the cost is low. Once the tooth gets worst, more procedures is needed to cure the pain. Get treatment from any dental clinics and they will provide the services that gives you a healthy smile back again.
